Good Morning Fourth Grade Parents!
Welcome to the Fourth Quarter! I am looking forward to beginning Google Classrooms this week. Every Monday, a weekly overview will be posted on both my blog and Dojo. Students should be prepared to do academic work for two hours a day. Please feel free to create a schedule that is best for your family. I will be available for help from 9:30- 11:30 a.m. This is a learning process for all of us. I know that we will all do our best to help children learn You should have received an invitation to the Room 206 classroom from me, Ms. Wejman, and Ms. Lemberis. In the Room 206 classroom, there will be assignments from Spanish, reading, social science, and math. Ms. Nieto will also be available on the Room 206 page. You will be assigned writing work in Google classroom and science work in Ms. Lemberis’ Google classroom. In case you have not received an invite from me, the google classroom code is vtyprz7. We will have our first all class google meets session at 10 am today for a check in. It will be for 30 minutes. I will send an invite thru google calendar. You will click on the link at 10 am and we should all be there. Here are some basic rules for the week:
Every week, you will receive a participation grade for each subject. We will use our common rubric to grade student work: ★ Student has shown convincing evidence of understanding. Answer is accurate and written in full detail. The student has met expectations of the task presented. Calculation: 10/10 ✔+ Student has shown some convincing evidence of understanding. The work may contain a minor error. Answer is accurate to answer the task and/or thinking shown. Calculation: 9/10 ✔ Student has shown some evidence of understanding. The answer demonstrates some understanding of the presented task. May contain minor errors or a major error. Calculation: 8/10 ✔- Student has attempted to solve the task. Answer is incorrect. Calculation: 7/10 ⊘ No attempt made to solve the task. There is just an answer. Reading April is poetry month! This week, we will learn about different types of figurative language. This week we will look at similes and metaphors. Each day there will be a morning class reading assignment via google classroom. Check your emails for assignments. Please try to complete one reading test on read theory a week. If you need your username and password, please let me know. During poetry month, please take the time to read poetry. You can do this online. This Thursday is World Book Day! Please be prepared to share the title of your favorite book. You can also dress up in costume and take a photo. We will have a google hangout meeting to discuss your book of choice on Thursday. Math We will begin each morning with a morning math activity via google classroom. We continue to complete unit 6 of our EDM book. Students will practice using partial-quotients division. Solving number stories with remainders and expressing them with fractions and measuring angles. For your math grade for the week, please work on Khan Academy for at least 60 minutes a week or you can complete your homelinks pgs. 239, 240 242. Please let me know if you need help with a specific problem. I am here to help you. Just send me an email. My office hours are from 1:30- 3:30 p.m. for any additional help. Social Science Students will work on identifying the location of the states in the Southeast region. Lastly students, will have the opportunity to share with me how ways that they are coping with our new normal in a coping with Covid packet. This packet has a lot of cool activities for kids to share with me ways that they have made the best possible use at home. All located on google classroom. Report Card Conferences Wednesday is our time to discuss your child’s progress in fourth grade. Please set up a time with me to talk. We can meet on google meet.
